AI content: my approach
We've all read copy that's clearly been through the ChatGPT wringer. (“In today's rapidly evolving landscape, businesses must adapt or die. This isn’t just a trend; it’s a paradigm shift!”)
This word salad doesn’t say much, and it certainly doesn’t do anything for your brand.
I firmly believe that AI writing, more often than not, needs a human touch to really sing. And that’s where an editor’s eye can make all the difference.
I use AI daily—Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity—and genuinely appreciate what it can do. But I also know exactly where it falls flat. AI doesn't instinctively “get” your brand voice; it can't tell when a metaphor lands versus when it's trying too hard. And it definitely can't resist a good cliché.
That's where I come in.
Here are a few specific ways I leverage AI to enhance my writing and editing process:
As a thoughtful beta reader who can quickly spot gaps in logic or narrative weak points
As an on-demand subject matter expert who can help break down complicated topics into digestible explanations
To brainstorm ideas for fresh content angles when I need to examine a familiar topic through a new lens
To provide perspective on audience needs and identify how different reader personas might interpret a piece of content
To offer targeted suggestions for strengthening transitions and improving flow
To catch subtle inconsistencies that even experienced editors might miss
To spin one robust piece of content into multiple formats to maximize reach
And here are a few things I promise to never do:
Treat AI like a ghostwriter instead of a tool
Deliver copy I haven't personally edited and fact-checked
Use AI to replace old-fashioned desk research or original interviews
Upload sensitive or embargoed information into a public LLM
Let AI get away with hallucinated quotes or statistics (because it will try)
Whether you need someone to polish and fact-check AI-generated drafts or create something 100% human, I can flex either way. After all, I've been hunting down clichés and triple-checking sources since long before AI made the em-dash public enemy number one.
Let's discuss your vision for your next project.
